ALPHA CANIS at the EKKA 2015
On Sunday the 9th August we attended the Greyhound Sweepstakes at the Brisbane EKKA with our dog Bogan Beautiful (Foxy). WOW what an eye opener. There must have been 60 – 70 greyhounds of all shapes and sizes in attendance for the competition, and I must say that everyone must be congratulated on the way in which they engaged the public, answered questions and allowed the public to pet the dogs and have photos taken with children.
The Novice handlers get a run down on do’s and don’ts for showing their hound.
The competition was friendly with most exhibitors being nervous novices like myself, but we were given pointers and several practice sessions to try to help settle those nerves. The judging was conducted in a professional manner with great commentary by John Brasch extolling the virtues of this great breed of dog and advising the public where they can attend race meetings; become involved with these wonderful dogs, either as race or pet dogs through the GAP program.
The winner of the Best Dog & Best of Breed went to exhibitor Sid Goodwin and his well bred dog Master Corsair. Master Corsair is the son of Dashing Corsair winner of the 2009 sprint championship and 2011 Distance championship and winner of a total of $455 ooo in prize money.
Congratulations to Racing Queensland and all those that assisted in the success of the event, including the GAP display; our Judge John Bryson for his professionalism and knowledge that he bought to the event, and finally to the participants and the winners. Well done.
Referred to as the tiger dog by kids a tired Foxy is ready to go home.
